Beefing Up Resilience Ahead of Disasters
Beefing Up Resilience Ahead of Disasters
Mr Chuda Mani Bhandari, the former Chief of Health Emergency Operations Centre at Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population, was at home with his family when he felt the tremor and everything around him were thrown to the ground.
A massive 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on that day—25 April 2015. In Mr Bhandari’s district, which is close to the epicentre of the earthquake, there were about 3,500 casualties and more than 90% of homes destroyed.
He realised the need for communities to be more resilient and prepared in times of emergencies and disasters.
