Temasek dedicates endowments to Dr Ee Peng Liang and Dr Balaji Sadasivan

Dedication marks 37th anniversary along with sponsorship of Singapore Special Olympics team and ISCOS Family Day

Singapore

To commemorate its 37th anniversary on 25 June 2011, Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited (“Temasek”) has named two existing endowments under Temasek Cares after two Singaporeans, the late philanthropist Dr Ee Peng Liang, and the late former Senior Minister of State Dr Balaji Sadasivan, in honour of their roles and contributions in social service and healthcare.

The S$35 million Ee Peng Liang Endowment and the S$35 million Balaji Sadasivan Endowment are earmarked for capability building in the special needs and healthcare sector respectively.

Over the last one year, Temasek Cares has been supporting the special needs and healthcare sectors under these two Endowments. For the special needs sector, Temasek Cares has contributed over S$650,000 for study awards for therapists and early intervention teachers, as well as to support students with learning and developmental needs in Northlight School and Assumption Pathway School. In the healthcare sector, a similar amount has gone into study awards for therapists and nurses and a pilot programme called Ageing in Place @Tanjong Rhu, which provides community rehabilitation and home care services for the frail elderly in the estate.

In a separate move by Temasek's staff volunteer initiative, T-Touch, Temasek staff are sponsoring over 60 athletes and officials from the Special Olympics Singapore delegation in the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2011. The Games will be held from 25 June to 4 July in Athens, Greece.

T-Touch is also partnering the Industrial & Services Co-operative Society Ltd (ISCOS), which provides aftercare services to ex-offenders to help in their reintegration into society, in the co-operative’s annual Family Day on 24 June.
