Temasek appoints Ding Wei as its Head for China

Temasek Holdings is pleased to confirm the appointment of Mr Ding Wei to head its China focus with effect from 28 February 2011.

As part of Temasek's senior management, Ding Wei will continue to build on Temasek's platform in China as a long-term, active investor in successful enterprises.

Ding Wei has over 23 years of experience in international finance, commercial banking and investment banking in leading financial institutions which included the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Deutsche Bank, and China International Capital Corporation, including 12 years based in China.

Ding Wei will be supported by Ms Cheo Hock Kuan as co-Head for China, while Mr Gan Chee Yen will relinquish his current role as Head for China and take on a new appointment as Senior Managing Director, Special Projects.

About Ding Wei

Ding Wei, aged 51, was until most recently, with China International Capital Corporation (CICC) where he was responsible for the investment banking business. He held the appointment of Executive Chairman of CICC Investment Banking Business Committee and Head of Investment Banking Division, and was a Managing Director of CICC. Earlier, from 1999 to 2002, he was Deutsche Bank's Chief Country Officer for China. From 1987 to 1999, Ding Wei was with the World Bank for twelve years during which he assumed various roles as economist, project manager, and divisional manager in the Bank's European and Asia Regions. From 1992 to 1993, he was seconded from the World Bank to the International Monetary Fund as the Fund's senior economist and chief representative to Albania.

Ding Wei graduated from Renmin University of China, Beijing, with a Bachelor of Economics. He was on the PhD Economics Program with a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Texas in Austin. In 1998, Ding Wei received his executive management training at Harvard University.
